Visit To Arbroath

Mackay's Jam Factory
The Society had a very successful visit to Arbroath where we had a very interesting visit to Mackays Jam Factory.
We were welcomed by Paul Grant, Managing Director, and given a very thorough history of the origin of ‘Mackays Jams’ over a welcome cup of coffee.
Paul then gave us step by step tour of the factory form where the fruit is brought in to the boiling pans, sugar by the bucketful and the end product being poured into the jars, inspection and labelling to final despatch.

Visit to Mackay boatbuilders

Mackay Boatbuilders was owned by the late Bob Mackay and is now being run by by Harry Simpson.
Their work is mainly on small boats and have been renovating ‘Discovery’ in Dundee.

We saw the ‘Mari Dawn’ being launched after a refit.
Altogether a very interesting day out and we all enjoyed seeing how the Mackay name is being spread around the world
