The Clan Mackay Web Site

This Clan Mackay Web Site was designed by Stuart Greig of Falkirk. The Clan Mackay Society is most grateful to Stuart for sharing his expertise and ideas with us. Without his energy and enthusiasm the Web Site would never have got off the ground. Stuart is the son in law of Bill, Linlithgow, our Hon Grabalhair. Thank you Stuart .The current web-master is D. Colin, the Editor of the Bratach Bhan. the annual Newsletter of the Clan Mackay Society. However the website will be passed over to our new secretory, Ian F. Mackay of Glasgow in November at the AGM. This will allow D. Colin to concentrate on improving and seeking new material for the Newsletter, the Bratach Bhan.

The web-site is managed by the Clan Mackay Council's Web-Site Committee

The Bratach Bhan

The Bratach Bhan is the Clan Mackay Society's Annual Newsletter, published in the summer of each year and posted out to all members. The 2006 edition was issued in October 2006. It can be down loaded as a PDF file Bratach Bhan

It is illustrated in colour and includes a number of interesting articles. Contributions from members are always welcome and should be sent to the Editor, D. Colin Mackay at 36 Leamington Terrace, Edinburgh EH10 4JL. The High Lights for the current edition include a careful research of the history of the CLAN MCKAY'S SOCIETY, the original Friendly Society from which the present Clan Mackay Society evolved, written by our indefatigable senachaidh W.Alex Mackay.

It is with great sadnes that we have to announce the death of Sandy Mackay (Durban) Honorary Standard Bearer at the home of his daughter in New Zealand on Monday 3rd March 2008

The Clan Mackay Room

The Clan Mackay Room is situated in the Strathnaver Museum at Farr Old Church near Bettyhill. Plans are afoot to substantially upgrade the Clan Mackay Room over the next few years. We are in regular touch with the Trustees of the Museum and follow with interest the up-grading plans. Rachel Skene the professional worker at the Strathnaver Museum had been working part time in this role since April 2004, but has now moved on to different responsibilities. Brought up in Tongue, where her parents own what was formerly the "Burrs" Shop. Rachel is trained in design and fabric and weaves silk cloths for a select number of outlets. "Skene by name and skene by trade" We caught up with Rachel working with a group of local schoolchildren in the museum in the summer of 2005. They were producing the Strathnaver Times ! See the Image Pages on this web-site.

The Museum Web Site owes much to the work of our good friends Elliott and Pat Rudie and Jim Johnstone, the Head Teacher of Farr High School, and the web-master Steve Warner.

The Museum telephone number is CLACHAN, BETTYHILL, THURSO, KW14 7SS. Tel: 01641 521418
Email: museum@strathnaver.org

Donations

Donations are always welcome to the Clan Mackay Room Fund, or to the Clan's Benevolent and Educational Funds and should be made to the Secretary, Ian Mackay or the Treasurer, John S. Mackay

A recent donation from Sandy Mackay in Australia was gratefully accepted by the Society's Council and handed on to support Gaelic, Celtic and Scottish Studies in Tongue Primary School, Farr High School and Bonar Bridge Primary School.

Suggestions of Links to other Clan Societies and to Territorial Associations are always of interest. Please share and short circuit your surfing of the net by commending sites to us.
